Overview

After several New York Times articles and other publications of the House of Fire it is quickly becoming the most visited site in all of Bears Ears. For good reason as you’ll see in the photographs it is a site you don’t want to miss. It is a good half-day trip and takes most groups 2-3 hours to do this hike. The best time to photograph this site is in morning light and we’ll be sure to help you get that iconic photo to take home and hang on your wall. Then we’ll show you some of our favorite nearby spots that you don’t want to miss!

Itinerary

You’ll meet your guide at Wild Expeditions in Bluff 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Our standard trip times are 8 AM and 1 PM. After checking in with the office we will load up in a Jeep or 4×4 Van depending on the size of your group and it is about a 40 minute drive to our trailhead, but it is such a beautiful drive it’ll feel like 10 minutes. Once at the trailhead to House of Fire we’ll drop down a short steep hill and the hike is relatively flat though the canyon walls will grow as we hike into the canyon. 1.5 miles in we’ll find the House of Fire. For photographers we definitely recommend the morning departure time since the best pictures of the House of Fire are while the full ruin is covered by the morning shade. In the afternoon a shadow splits the ruin making it difficult to get those instagram pics.

Your guide will help you get the best shots and afterwards we’ll take you to some of our other favorite spots near House of Fire that are less well known. The area is so dense with archaeology that we can easily turn a 4 hour trip into a full day so if you’d like us to pack a lunch and extend to a full day just give us a call. If you want to hike more we’ll hike more and if your legs are tired we’ll drive you to some breathtaking overlooks. It truly is a custom tour after House of Fire so your guide will show you the best there is and make it the ideal trip for you. Let us be your local experts and you’ll be back time after time. The wild canyons of Bears Ears are addicting so don’t say we didn’t warn you.
