TRIP OVERVIEW

Travel the scenic Hwy 95, twenty minutes west of Blanding to Mule Canyon and Texas Flat Road to the Arch Canyon Overlook. First stop is the 7 tower ruins on the rim of Mule Canyon. 1000-year-old towers with a magnificent view of the canyon below. These Jeep roads are bumpy, but not extreme. A 2-wheel drive with good clearance can make it when dry. Arch Canyon Overlook is a peninsula like a ridge with views comparable to Angels Landing in Zion National Park.

ITINERARY

Meet at Four Corners Adventures in Bluff, Utah. Please arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. This tour leaves at 9 am and again at 1 pm. Only 20 minutes on Highway 95 and we are climbing our way onto Cedar Mesa. We’ll turn off on an unmarked dirt track that turns into a bumpy descent that looks worse than it is. We’ll cross Slickrock and come to a small parking area in the Juniper Trees. A short hike and we are at the rim looking down into Mule Canyon. Here the Anasazi built 7 towers, 2 of which are still standing today ~1000 years later! The view is magnificent and you may opt to go for a short hike off the rim to a small village of cliff dwellings or view the ruins with binoculars from the rim soaking in the solitude and imagining life here as a native to the canyon.

We will then jump back in the Jeeps and exit the way we came back to the highway and on to the Texas Flat/Mule Canyon Road. We’ll cross over Mule Canyon where hikers are coming and going to see the House of Fire Ruin. Check out our Cedar Mesa Hiking tours if interested in hiking this with a guide. After about 30 minutes on this bumpy road, we’ll split onto a 2 track side road and we are rewarded with an awe-inspiring view of Arch Canyon. Several guests have said it is better than Angels Landing in Zion, we agree. The solitude is second to none and the peninsula shaped ridge gives you a 270-degree view up and down the canyon. Far below Cathedral Arch can be seen and if you want to get a better look into the canyon take one of our Full day Arch Canyon Tours. We’ll enjoy the solitude, soak in the views and you’ll be grateful for digital cameras with the 100+ photos you just took. Tour returns to Bluff approx. 3 hours after departure time.
