Now taking reservations for 2010 San Juan River trips.

"But the San Juan country proper, between the Abajo Mountains and Monument Valley, and between the Colorado boundary and Glen Canyon of the Colorado, is the heart of the last great wilderness. Through the middle of it, flowing in a continuous canyon to its junction with the Colorado 133 miles westward, runs the San Juan River, as little known and as little celebrated as the country it drains."
-  Wallace Stegner, 1948

Overview

This trip is specifically intended to examine the birdlife of the San Juan River corridor. It is designed for both beginning and experienced birders, as well as those with more than a casual interest in the natural history of the Four Corners Region. We will stress visual and vocal identification of conspicuous resident nesting birds and how those species are typically found in habitat-specific communities. Nesting Peregrine Falcons are not uncommon along the river during spring, and we should have the opportunity to observe them and discuss how they have adapted to a desert river canyon environment. Our ornithologist will be Dr. Bryan Brown, who has studied the birds of the Colorado Plateau for over 30 years as an employee of the National Park Service, the University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University.
